Hi all,
Is there any particular way of pulling the bulb holders out of the
instrument cluster in a '71 bus? Bentley says there is no need to pull the
whole cluster out, but simply reach under the dashboard and remove the bulb
holder.
That's easier said than done! Not too easy for a 66 year old man with bad
knees!

Yes, should be easy. Reach back under the cluster, grab the bulb holder
and twist counter-clockwise, usually no more than 90 degrees. If that
doesn't work try clock-wise because someone may have futzed with them. The
holder should pop right out.

I find it much easier to just pull the bulb. It's not so bad pulling the
housing out, it's a PITA getting it back in and stay in

When I converted mine to LED, I switched the housing as well as the bulb
after I boogered a couple housings trying to get them back in.

been a year since a nicely running bus drops a galley plug and spins a
bearing.

over $3000 poured into rebuilt engine and new exhaust system.

it has started and run exactly ONCE for about 20 minutes but would not
idle
since shutting it off it has not restarted and I am ready to bang head
against wall.
one guy with an old single cab came by, looked at it took my money but
still no go.......

I have checked and rechecked everything gone thru the FI troubleshooting
manual and they all say it "should" run.....

need some karma or something ..........

wife wants me to sell it so time is getting short. and I sit there and
stare at it and go over all the things I have already done again. and
come up with same frustration, crannks hard, has fuel, has fire, has
compression is static timed as close as I can get it. so why the $>{}(#%!
wont it start....

just ranting

Well, the fact that it ran at least once eliminates the hypotheses
that there is something fundamentally wrong with the long-block.
I believe you have some non-standard equipment, such as Crane
ignition, etc., right? Could you try to bypass all that and work with
the most basic configuration, i.e., normal coil and points? And is the
ECU getting its signal from the distributor/coil?

Did you ever sort out your cell service so somebody can FaceTime or other
video chat service with you? A picture is worth a thousand words so a video
is even worth more.

well the plugs are getting a spark (dang near electrocuted myself earlier
today when I held it wrong)

have tried three different ECU's one is known to be working from another
vehicle (since scrapped)

the crane is a royal PITA to install and I don't have a spare known
working dizz, would need to assemble one from parts. but since it fires at
the right time and fires hard don't suspect this.

but at this point I don't suspect anything which is the problem, I can fix
it if I could only figure out what it is.
