So glad to see the VB list still alive and well. Â I found it again recently after many years away.
Anyhoo...Have you checked your condenser? Â These symptoms sound a lot like a bad or failing condenser.

As far as your suggestion David - when it stalls, it doesn't always completely die, sometimes it sort of puts along a bit, with no power, like it is just about to die. Pumping the gas pedal doesn't seem to do anything. 

After adjusting dwell - then I'll double check timing - I'll take it for a spin one last time - and pay attention to your question, and see if I can come up with an answer.

after it stalls, with no other cranking, immediately go back and open the throttle a few times - do you hear/see the accel pump squirting?
if not, then the bowl is dry and it's a delivery-to-the-carb problem.

when it stalls - does it stall at steady throttle, or just under accel?  does pumping the throttle (so using the accel pump to inject extra fuel) change it at all as it's stalling?
