Thanks Erik,
Good information. My cancel ring is in the same position as yours if I'm 
seeing your photo correctly. The flange is under one of the wheel 
spokes. If the steering wheel is centered with the spokes on the left 
and right, then the ring will located on the left facing the turn signal 
switch. In my case the little nubs don't seem to be able to push out far 
enough to allow the mechanism to latch as they hit the cancel flange.

Using the tape to tighten up the housing looks like a good choice to me. 
Much easier than welding and grinding to fit.

Any chance of wiring photos later on from under your dashboard?
