I had not thought about that. Thanks for the idea!

Retighten it after a few heat cool cycles.

Hi Steve,

Sorry – I have been really slammed at work – got a hard deadline this Friday. I just had a small break today so I decided to tackle this again.

I am not sure where I left off with you – but I got a gasket on TheSamba. I had been re-using the old one. It fell off twice. Good thing I happen to have earplugs in my pants from work. It may be related to the muffler strap not being in good shape.

I got a new muffler strap – made by some guy on the Samba. It is much heavier duty than the original. I also put that gasket on that I got from the samba classifieds. It all seems tight now. Hopefully it will hold. I’ve got inspection this month!

The whole clamp system seems pretty bad – although I guess it does allow you to rotate the muffler to get things to align a certain way. Otherwise, it seems like a pretty terrible clamping system. Kind of like a belt, when we should be using suspenders. Next time I run into this, I think I will either modify the exhaust, or get rid of the catalytic converter.

Happy bussing all…
