You might also consider using s hot glue gun to make any repairs.  The adhesive remains flexible AND the repair is completed within minutes.
The patches I have made using this technique are still good and have lasted for years.

Just wanted to update you all on the screen repair - I got the Fanchers kits. It came really quickly. I finally had some time to put install it yesterday, overall I'd say it is pretty nice - the worst part of it was the installer ;)

The guy who makes them was very helpful on the phone - I gave him a call to help clarify some of the instructions, and he was very helpful.

It is a little weird to me that the screen is just glued to the old screen frame. But he claims the first one he installed many many years ago is still holding on. I would suggest to anyone going this route - to get a seam ripper. It makes removing the old screen much easier, as well as removing the stitching.
