[T2] Engine intermittently turns off while coming to a stop

I had a 71 bus with that carb- recall that I cut off the idle solenoid 
plunger with a wire snip- the wire feeding it had a short/void 
somewhere. No problem when stopping- just turn it off, let clutch out in 
gear, never a runon.
