I live in Baltimore City, and have dealt with all the folks I thought
decent, and they have all retired or moved. when I needed an engine
recently (couple years ago) I shipped it to Boston Engine (Bob Donalds) he
has since died and his top engine guy opened as "Northeast engine" and he
did a rebuild for me and it was a good job also.

not local but worth the extra shipping (although I had a business trip to
Boston and took the old engine up and talked with em but engine was
shipped back in a wooden box and arrived in excellent condition.

so my reccomendation would be to send it to Boston!

  Bob

Im not looking for a race motor, but rather a torquey, powerful engine that will push my heavy air conditioned (will be) camper loaded with kids. I will be in the Md/Pa/DE area for at least 3 weeks then its back to NC. Thanks for all your suggestions.
