How old is the fuel? Smell ("Smell!" "Yuh?""SMELL." sniff "BELEECH!"
cough..."Smell like varnish?" "Yes, smell like varnish." cough. If the fuel
is more than a few months old, it's too old (unless it's been chemically
STABILized.

Good? OK, step two.

Apologies to Cheech and Chong. I don't suggest you taste it unless you
decide to siphon the tank empty with a hose.

***PREQUEL TO THE FOLLOWING TROUBLESHOOTING. ONLY DO THIS OUTDOORS AWAY
FROM ANY BUILDINGS (you may not want to burn your van to the ground, but
you REALLY don't want to burn your house down with it). HAVE A FIRE
EXTINGUISHER AND AN OLD COTTON OR WOOL BLANKET AT HAND. TIE LONG HAIR BACK.
NO SMOKES OR SPARKS!***

There is a small port on the port (driver's in USA) side fuel rail where
one can attach a fuel pressure gauge; it looks about the size of a tire
stem valve cap, but it's steel. There should be residual pressure in the
lines after minimal cranking. If you crack this cap open, some fuel should
come out under pressure. If not, you're not getting fuel, or the pressure
regulator is shot.
