You could use compression fittings on 1/4" dia tubing. I used some 
stainless in my bus to replace the original steel tube from the fuel 
pump back towards the tank. You know, the piece that gets cut by the 
engine tin and makes fire.
The SS tubing had a slightly thicker wall and I ended up with a vapor 
lock on a hot day. Went back to the original tube. So, be careful about 
the tubing wall thickness. Also copper is a great heat conductor and 
maybe vapor lock would be more likely as a result. YMMV
