???   Hyd. Lifters are adjusted so the piston is in the MIDDLE of its 
range of travel- when adjusted too tight, there is no range and you can 
have valve not totally seating (to cool) or when too loose, it will slap 
and not open enough.  The oil pumped up limits this range to nearly none 
but allows enough at ANY ENGINE TEMP to allow full seating of the valve. 
There is no "pumped up too much".  The valve clatter at "pre-pumped up 
warming is the piston slapping around until oil fills the lifter and it 
quiets.  This can be longer for old engines that let oil drain from 
lifter when bus sits a while.  Let it quiet before driving.
