Here are the post repair findings:

Tried the carb spray, and the darn thing ran better when I sprayed the left carb.  Figured out that the left side was not running at all by pulling the plug wires - except on the carb spray.

Pulled the cover of the carb and replaced a suspicious looking float valve.  Negative results.  Float bowl was mostly empty.

Decided to replace the fuel line tee (it was plastic and shouldn’t have been there anyway) with a brass piece, and the sucker started right up.

Kind of a head scratcher.
