Hello
She is a t2 1970 with some improvements.
After reading the Haynes manual and few posts here ant there I think
that I am ready to take on the job - replacing the outer CV Joints
with new ones.
On the 1970 t2 bus I have an intermittent banging noise on the rear
right side - checked the rubber boot - it appears with no cracks but
empty of grease. The banging noise starts after taking sharp turns
with harder acceleration and then disappears. Increases with the
speed. So my assumption is that the CV joints are the culprit. I
acquired the bus from a widow of a guy who did a lot of maintenance on
this bus but no exchange of information was possible in regards of
when and what was done on this beautiful bus.
I read the thread here about using the right washers and dyno to the
right torque too the retaining 6 bolts. Wrote down a note to remind
myself on the groove to be on the inner side - towards the shaft.
I was told that if not replacing all of them I could "rotate" them
-the one from the left side to go on the right side end vice-verca. I
was told that this way I could "extend their life.
Is there anything else I should be aware of before I take on this job?
- it will be my first time replacing CV joints.
Thank you
