Nyssa's bus had an S boot like that- you have to pull it and flex along 
all those edges. she had a crack.  Perhaps a vac gauge reading by 
someone with a good system while cranking only would give you a comparison?
    As for timing, I thought the sistributor could beanywhere as long as 
firing order is correct and #1 wire is #1 piston/valves ready for 
ignition?  (Yes I know, early distributors and maybe later ones retard # 
3 abit?)
