I still HIGHLY recommend avoiding rt 50 inside the washington Beltway. 
find another route or do it at 3AM on a Sunday morning.

I have spent an hour on RT 50 from the DC line to the Beltway (about 
4miles) on many occasions when I couldn't avoid it.   take the train into 
DC and use METRO.
