well,,, 14 hp is about 10,000 watts.. and that is about 36,000 btu/hr = 3 
tons...

a pretty standard size house A/C is 1 or 1.5 tons ...

the older ones are very inefficent ,  but some of the newer ones are about 
1.5 hp for a Vw bus..
