[T2] '76 bay misfires, sometimes stalls: why?

and it is a very dumb computer and almost never goes bad. in 40+years of 
being a VW pilot I have run into one bad computer (they call it an 
Electronic control unit) and every case I have run into or heard of the 
ECU goes to total failure mode, engine won't run at all.

so would be very very suspicous if someone said the ECU was bad, not to 
mention they cost a fortune.
